An impressive replica in Colmar
Located at the northern entrance of Colmar, Alsace, France, and inaugurated in 2004 to celebrate the centenary of Bartholdi’s death, this 39-foot-tall replica pays homage to the brilliant creator of the famous Statue of Liberty that illuminates New York Harbor. The original statue measures 305 feet from the base to the top of the torch.

Who was Auguste Bartholdi?
Auguste Bartholdi, born August 2, 1834 in Colmar and died October 4, 1904 in Paris, was a renowned French sculptor, best known for his monumental works. In addition to the Statue of Liberty, Bartholdi created many other famous sculptures, including the Lion of Belfort, the equestrian statue of Joan of Arc in Meridian Hill Park, Washington, D.C., and the statue of Lafayette, erected in 1876 in New York’s Union Square. His artistic vision and commitment to the values of liberty and fraternity marked his era and continue to inspire us today.

The original Statue of Liberty was donated by France to the United States and inaugurated on October 28, 1886.
