Walk in the footsteps of your ANCESTORS

A REAL RETURN TO YOUR ROOTS!

Once you’ve done your genealogical research, what could be more moving than to come and discover your ancestors’ region by yourself?
Even if 4, 5, 6 or more generations separate you, come and discover the villages where they were born, where they lived. Come and follow in the footsteps of your ancestors along the narrow local roads, visit the church where they were baptised, the house where they grew up, the countryside they roamed, the land they worked, the cemetery where some of your ancestors may still be buried.
All genealogical research is a journey that begins with an investigation, but it can also take the form of a trip to the place where your ancestors lived, allowing you to immerse yourself in the familiar environment of your ancestors: rich moments of discovery and emotion ahead!

I’d be delighted to put together a tailor-made, turnkey tour based on the quest for meaning and identity in your family roots, while helping you discover the history and geography of the regions of Alsace that are close to my heart.
We’ll work together to prepare the programme so that it’s as close as possible to what you want. If necessary, I’ll use my experience as a professional genealogist to help you find the places where your ancestors lived. We’ll then draw up an itinerary based on the places you want to visit (a family home, a cemetery, a church, etc.); the resource sites likely to give you a better understanding of life in days gone by (local heritage, museums, local archives, associations) and any family gatherings.

As genealogical travel requires a strong historical and heritage component, the presence of a professional guide will give you a better understanding of the lifestyle of your ancestors and the socio-economic or religious context that led them to emigrate. From the Middle Ages to the construction of a peaceful Europe, Alsace was a coveted territory, but also a land of trade at the centre of the Rhine Valley, and as such it is heir to a rich heritage. With my extensive knowledge of local history, I’ll be your guide. I will take care of the preparation and planning to ensure that you have access to the various places to visit, and will provide you with comfortable transport. If you wish, I can also organise a stopover to enjoy a typical meal in one of our charming Alsatian restaurants and let you discover the gastronomy of the region of your ancestors.

I’m a fervent supporter of Franco-American friendship, partly because of the strong historical links between my region of Alsace and the United States, and partly because of my personal background. One of my ancestors emigrated to Illinois. My wife has also lived in Princeton, NJ and Santa Barbara, CA, and as two of her daughters started their families in the Golden State, we are lucky enough to often visit the USA .

The story of your ancestors is unique and so are your wishes. For a personalised experience, contact me and we’ll create your journey together.

Note: this service does not include “travel agency” type services, such as accommodation bookings (hotel, AirBnb, etc.) or transport bookings (train, plane, etc.).
